Merchant of Record — Lesson Elf

The short version

Lesson Elf, operated by Fiona Sloane, is the merchant of record for every payment taken on the platform — one-to-one tutor lessons and paid subscriptions to our teacher lesson-creation tools. You contract with, and pay, Lesson Elf. Your card or bank statement will show Lesson Elf.

What "merchant of record" means here

Lesson Elf sells the service to you, collects the payment, and is responsible for issuing receipts, handling refunds under our Refund Policy, and dealing with payment disputes.
Lesson Elf accounts for any sales tax or VAT that it is required to collect. Prices shown at checkout include such taxes where they apply, unless stated otherwise.

Tutor lessons

Tutors listed on Lesson Elf Tutors are independent contractors, not employees or agents of Lesson Elf. When you book a lesson:

You pay Lesson Elf the full lesson price.
Lesson Elf retains a platform commission of 15%.
Lesson Elf pays the remaining 85% to the tutor via Stripe.

You are not paying the tutor directly, and the tutor does not take payment details from you.

Payment processing

Card payments and tutor payouts are processed by Stripe. Lesson Elf does not store your full card number. Stripe's own terms and privacy policy apply to its processing of your payment data.
