You provide tutoring services as an independent contractor. Nothing in these terms creates an employment relationship, partnership, joint venture or agency between you and Lesson Elf. You are responsible for your own income tax, National Insurance or equivalent, any business registration, and any professional or liability insurance you choose to hold.
You are responsible for confirming you have the legal right to work and to provide tutoring services in your country of residence.
You apply through our tutor application form. We review every application personally and may ask you for identification, proof of qualifications, or references. Approval is at our sole discretion, and being approved once does not guarantee continued listing. We may withdraw approval, pause or remove your profile at any time — see section 11.
You must keep the information on your profile — including your name, photograph, biography, nationality, and the qualifications you list — accurate and current. Listing a qualification you do not hold is a serious breach of these terms.
You may only accept bookings for learners under 18 if we have specifically enabled that on your profile. Where you teach minors:
You grant Lesson Elf a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display your name, photograph, introduction video, biography, qualifications, specialties and availability on the platform and in related marketing for as long as you have a profile with us. You are responsible for having the rights to any photo or video you upload.
You set your own weekly availability, minimum notice period, hourly rate and lesson options. A booking that has been paid for is a firm commitment. You agree to:
Lesson Elf is the merchant of record. Students pay Lesson Elf, not you directly. We collect the lesson fee, retain our commission, and pay the balance to you. See our Merchant of Record statement.
You must honour our Refund Policy. In summary:
If you cannot attend a lesson because of a genuine emergency, contact us as soon as possible.
After a completed lesson a student may leave a review. Reviews are checked by Lesson Elf before being passed to you, and you then choose whether to publish each one on your public profile. You must not:
You agree to act professionally, lawfully and without discrimination. In particular you must not:
You may stop offering lessons at any time by removing your availability and telling us. Either party may end this arrangement on reasonable notice. We may suspend or remove your profile immediately and without notice where we reasonably believe there is a safeguarding risk, fraud, a serious or repeated breach of these terms, or a pattern of complaints.
On termination you must still honour lessons already booked, or we will cancel and refund them to the affected students.
You are responsible for the lessons you deliver and for the accuracy of everything on your profile. To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify Lesson Elf against claims, losses and costs arising from your acts or omissions, your misrepresentation of your qualifications or status, or your breach of these terms.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lesson Elf's total liability to you in connection with the marketplace is limited to the total commission we retained on your bookings in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, income or goodwill.
We may update these terms from time to time. We will give reasonable notice of material changes. Continuing to offer or deliver lessons after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
